چکیده

In this paper we present the main features of the ITER Divertor final dlesign from an engineering point of view and describe the present choices regarding layout, geometry and material selection. The assessment of the detailed design shows that the divertor is able to withstand the thermal and electromagnetic loading conditions foreseen for ITER, and that the estimated lifetime of the Plasma Facing Components (PFCs), in relation to the thermal low cycle fatigue of the heat sink, or to the expected armour erosion, meets the ITER requirements.

UWFDM-1077 Three-Dimensional Neutronics Analysis for the ITER Divertor Cassette Design Options

Three-dimensional neutronics calculations have been performed for the ITER divertor cassette design options to determine the nuclear parameters in the cassettes and assess the impact of streaming on vacuum vessel and toroidal field (TF) coil damage. The local nuclear parameters in the components of the reference cassette design are similar or lower than those in the cassette design option with ...

Damage to nearby divertor components of ITER-like devices during giant ELMs and disruptions

During normal operation of the high confinement mode in future ITER devices, edge-localized modes (ELMs) are a potential threat to the divertor components lifetime and plasma contamination. To predict the outcome of the direct ELM plasma impact on the divertor plate, conversion of plasma energy into radiation in the shielding layer, and then the resulting energy deposition of radiation flux to ...

"Plasma Surface Interaction Issues of an All-Metal ITER"

We assess key plasma surface interaction issues of an all-metal plasma facing component (PFC) system for ITER, in particular a tungsten divertor surface, and a beryllium or tungsten first wall. Such a system eliminates problems with carbon divertor erosion and T/C codeposition, and for an all-tungsten system would better extrapolate to post-ITER devices. The issues studied are sputtering, trans...

Divertor interferometer diagnostic for ITER

In the harsh environment of the divertor region in ITER, plasmas spanning a huge density range from 1019 to 1022 m−3 are anticipated making measurement of the electron density particularly challenging. For any reasonable wavelength choice, the total phase measured by a conventional two-color interferometer system is always 2 and therefore subject to fringe counting errors. This problem can be r...

Suppression of tritium retention in remote areas of ITER by nonperturbative reactive gas injection.

A technique based on reactive gas injection in the afterglow region of the divertor plasma is proposed for the suppression of tritium-carbon codeposits in remote areas of ITER when operated with carbon-based divertor targets. Experiments in a divertor simulator plasma device indicate that a 4  nm/min deposition can be suppressed by addition of 1  Pa·m³ s⁻¹ ammonia flow at 10 cm from the plasma....
